It was a rollercoaster of emotions for Town, as they came from 2-0 down to take a point back to Cantilever and nearly snatched all three points! After the loss against Scarborough, manager Paul Carden discussed how his squad needed to show 'Character' if they are to make a late charge to avoid relegation and this was definitely evident in Town's latest performance.

It was a decent start for Town against Alfreton. The game started with an attacking threat and gaining a couple of early chances. However, a flick up from the Alfreton forward hit the hand of Hamish Douglas and gave the hosts an early penalty. This was dispatched and it seemed like it was going to be another game where it wasn't to be for Town. It easily could've been 2 if it wasn't for Atherton making an unbelievable stop to flick the ball onto the crossbar and several clearances from Clarke. A few more chances were created for Wire but poor decision making in the final third was crucial to Town going into the break 1-0 down.

Early in the second half, Carden made three substitutions, bringing on Devarn Green, Josh Amis and Mike O'Niell. The positive changes were met with an immediate second for Alfreton, as Town failed to clear the Alfreton pressure. Hope seemed lost for The Yellows as nothing seemed to be working, and they found themselves 2 goals down to an out of form Alfreton. Step forward El Capitano. Green began creating some great chances, utilising his pace and quality, as Town pushed for a goal back. It came in the 80th minute following a great cross from Aaron James that was met by the head of Josh Amis at the back post! Game on! Town pushed on and followed it up by Amis sending a great ball forward to JRG, who held the ball up brilliantly to lay it off to Amis. Josh Amis then struck the ball that might have ended up on the motorway if it hadn't been for the Alfreton net. Town were all level thanks to two great goals from the skipper and continued to push on. A cross into the box was expertly saved by the Alfreton keeper before James would have a cross come off of the top of the crossbar. Alfreton nearly nicked a win too, but Dan Atherton was on hand to pull off another incredible save. In the end, the points were shared and Town could celebrate a fight back when all seemed lost.

Overall, Town still couldn't manage to take home all three points but the fight was well and truly on display. If we somehow manage to stay in this league then we will need character and spirit to drag us through games and to start these matches the way we've been ending them. Tomorrow's fixture is a game where anything but a win would be detrimental to our survival hopes. A Rushall side who sit level on points with us but sit below us by a hefty goal difference. March will be a huge factor in our pursuit of survival and hopefully, we can come out of it with a bit of hope and confidence that we could stay up.
