Ah finally! Town prevailed in their latest home game with a 2-0 win against relegation rivals Rushall Olympic. Goals from Mikey O'Niell and Lee Williams were enough to secure Town all three points in a game that was viewed as a must win in their hunt for survival. The late point at Alfreton should've given Town the confidence to go out and perform and it's exactly what occurred, a game that Town dominated and were well placed for the win.
It was a start where Town were on the front foot from the offset and were pushing for an early goal. Rushall were able to string some passes together and get a few half chances but it wasn't anything that Town weren't able to deal with. Devarn Green then played a wonderful ball to Joe Rodwell-Grant, who was able to take the ball down brilliantly and sent a pass towards Amis. The big man was unable to reach the ball but luckily Mikey O'Niell was on hand to pick up the pass and slot it home! A great response to his return to the starting 11. Town pushed on for a second but O'Niell's goal would be the difference at the break. The second half came along and Town were able to dominate for large parts, having a number of chances being stopped by the Rushall keeper. Tension would build around Cantilever as the visitors' chances started growing, resulting in multiple corners. A final corner would be dealt with by Town, resulting in a throw that would see Rushall's shot stopper come up into the Town box. The throw-in would be dealt with by Town, but the Rushall attempt to get the ball into the box would be blocked by Jay Harris, who would play a great ball to substitute Lee Williams. With an open goal in front of him, Williams kept his composure and slotted home the winner in a crucial game for the Yellows. Fans and players alike were jubilant as Warrington had their first win of 2025 and moved within 5 points of safety.
Eyes then moved onto a game that could've been seen as a 'free hit' for Town with Radcliffe and Oxford coming up, them being incredibly important games against relegation rivals. Confidence was high though as they looked to put a solid performance in against an inform Chester side. Former Warrington star Connor Woods made the switch to Chester earlier this season for £12,500, and had been a regular part of the seals squad since his arrival. However, Woods would be knowledgeable in the squad due to a clause within his sale, stating he would not play against the Yellows this season. Town started the game as expected, but were able to push Chester back and gain a corner within the first 15 minutes. Aaron James would leap highest from O'Niell's cross and score his first goal since his arrival from Chester's bitter rivals, Wrexham! It was an unanticipated start to see Town winning away at Chester but it wasn't to last long. Despite some great spells of football, James would concede a penalty which Chester despatched to bring the game level. The goal would be enough to see the hosts go into half-time level with Warrington actually having the better of the ball. The second half continued with Town playing well and having a major chance in which Matty McDonald would have his shot saved well by the Chester keeper. Town then were unable to deal with a corner that saw Chester take the lead. Town pushed on but Chester's quality prevailed as they scored a wonderful third goal. In the end, Town came away with a good performance and probably deserved a point, but it wasn't to be.
Overall, Town managed an important win in a game which they really needed to rally and get all three points and managed a great performance and were very close to walking away with a point against a Chester side expected to be outright winners. The next two games are undoubtedly important as Town take on 19th placed Radcliffe and 20th placed Oxford. These should be seen as must wins with Radcliffe being the only side Town have beaten away from home this season and Oxford having just taken a 7-0 battering at the hands of Buxton. 6 points from these could be enough to take Town out of the relegation zone (depending on other teams results) and would be an integral step towards survival. Whatever happens though, we are Town forever and will continue to give the squad the support it needs.
